The Edit

Following her announcement of baby number two, we caught up with stylist and influencer Sinead Crowe on all things motherhood, fashion and pregnancy.

Congratulations on baby number two! How are you feeling this time round?

It’s definitely true that every pregnancy is completely different! I had quite an easy pregnancy with Margot so I was really expecting to breeze through this one too but it’s definitely been more challenging. There’s also the added factor that not only did I not have a one-year-old to run around after last time, but we were also in lockdown so I was napping and relaxing a lot more last time round.

That being said, I would say this pregnancy has gone by so quickly already – I haven’t really had a chance to even think about it! I think when I start to feel the baby move it’s going to hit home.

We love your sense of style; are there any upcoming trends you’re loving for Spring/Summer 22?

Ah thank you so much! I am a real lover of basics and wardrobe staples so I tend to pick and choose the trends and only really follow the ones that I think will last or something I really love and know I will wear when it’s no longer ‘on trend’.

I definitely can’t see myself wearing the low-slung waist and I don’t think that’s something I’d have gone for, baby bump or no bump! The ultra mini and sheer trends also don’t sound too bump friendly to me. I do love the cut-out trend and feel it could work nicely with a bump if you get the cut outs right and go for something simpler with the cut outs focused on the neckline. I’m also loving that oversized blazers are here to stay! I find them great for dressing the bump especially as it goes with everything and can instantly smarten up a look with maternity leggings.

Has your own style changed since becoming mum to Margot?

It’s certainly more practical these days and there’s no outfit repeating when it comes to weaning! I find that I wear longer hemlines and higher necklines because I’m always bending down, and I do have to really think about making more of an effort as it’s easy to just pop on jeans and a t-shirt or leggings and a jumper every day.

What item couldn’t you live without?

Right now, it’s my Spanx Mama Look At Me leggings. I actually never stopped wearing them after I had Margot as they stretch with you so weren’t at all loose when I wasn’t pregnant.

What are your top tips for styling a growing baby bump?

I love an oversized knit, shirt or blazer and I find between those three you can always dress up a pair of maternity leggings which I am living in right now. I’m really looking forward to some warmer weather to break out the dresses, I just love a glowing pregnant lady in a summer maxi dress!

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in maternity style over the years?

I’ve seen some great brands coming out with maternity clothes that are more stylish and less ‘mumsy’ with a much better range of items. I do still find most stores have very small maternity sections, so I think online is definitely the way to go for shopping!

What’s your essential purchase for a mama-to-be?

I’ll say one fashion and one beauty, because I can’t pick just one! The Mama Mio Bump Cream – I used it in my first pregnancy and didn’t get one stretch mark. Secondly it has to be my Spanx Mama Look At Me leggings, they are beyond comfy and super great quality, I even feel comfortable wearing them with shorter tops.
